When the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, the top club in the Western Conference will face the bottom team.
The Thunder haven't lost at home since November 17 and have won 20 of their previous 22 games. With a 19-2 home record this season, Oklahoma City is second only to Cleveland in the NBA for home winning percentage.
The Jazz have dropped 11 of their last 14 games and three in a row. Utah just lost to New Orleans 123-119 in overtime on Monday.
The two of the teams' four meetings this season will take place on Wednesday. In Oklahoma City, the Thunder defeated the Jazz 133-106 on December 3. Isaiah Joe scored a season-high 19 points for the Thunder in that contest.
Joe has been on the rise lately. In Sunday's 127-101 victory over Brooklyn, he scored 24 points and was 8 of 10 from beyond the arc.
He has shot 55.9 percent from the floor, including 54.5 percent from outside the arc, and averaged 15.2 points over the last six games. Only Jalen Green of the Rockets has made 7.1 or more 3-point attempts over that time, shooting a higher percentage.
After hitting more than 40 percent from 3-point range for back-to-back seasons, Joe has struggled a little until the final six games, shooting 35.2 percent.
Golden State Warriors vs Sacramento Kings Preview, What to Watch
Two teams headed in vastly different directions go head-to-head on Wednesday night when the Golden State Warriors visit the Sacramento Kings as part of the NBA's rivalry week.
The Northern California combatants will be colliding for the second time in 18 days, with little changing between the meetings.
The Kings made the short trip to San Francisco and walked off with an easy 129-99 victory on Jan. 5, burying the Warriors under a barrage of 3-pointers. Malik Monk (five), Kevin Huerter (four) and Keegan Murray (three) combined for 12 of them, helping Sacramento make 19 of 43 attempts from deep.
The victory, which occurred on Doug Christie's first trip to San Francisco as Kings interim coach, included double-doubles from Monk (26 points, 12 assists) and Domantas Sabonis (22 points, 13 rebounds).
Sacramento will be attempting to finish a 3-0 homestand that started with victories against the Washington Wizards and Houston Rockets. Under Christie, the Kings are undefeated (6-0) at home.
The Warriors might be taken aback by Sabonis' ability to shoot 3-pointers. He hit one of two in the victory earlier this month after making just two of six shots in the Golden State four-game season series in 2023–24.
In Monday's 125-85 thrashing at the hands of the Boston Celtics, the Warriors lacked such confidence. Golden State missed 39 of their 53 3-point tries while playing at home, shooting only 34.8 percent overall and 26.4 percent on 3-pointers.
Golden State is now in a two-game run that many predict will be crucial in deciding the team's course at the trade deadline. The team's early performances, which include a more difficult-than-expected 122-114 victory over the Wizards, have not been encouraging. Eight of the nine games are played at home, with the one road game being against Sacramento.
This season, the Warriors have been limited to 101 points or less 14 times. In those games, they have a 1–13 record.
Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Clippers Preview, What to Watch
The Boston Celtics are heading down the coast to play the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night in Inglewood, California, after a 40-point rout to start their journey through California.
The Celtics, who had just defeated the Golden State Warriors 125-85 on Monday in San Francisco, faced minimal opposition after losing four of their previous seven games. For Boston, Jayson Tatum pulled down nine rebounds and scored 22 points.
The game marked the beginning of a four-game journey that will continue in Los Angeles to play the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday and the rival Lakers on Thursday.
The Celtics took a 54-39 halftime advantage on Monday and were all business from the start. Then, in the third quarter, when Tatum scored 12 points and Jaylen Brown scored nine of his 17, Boston defeated Golden State 43-24. In the contest, Kristaps Porzingis scored eighteen points.
The Clippers are coming off a four-game winning streak that ended Monday with a 112-99 loss to the Chicago Bulls. After missing the first 34 games of the season due to an injured knee, Kawhi Leonard was sidelined on the second night of a back-to-back to recuperate.
Center Ivica Zubac was also out after getting a poke to the eye during Sunday's Clippers victory against the Lakers.
Zubac averages 15.0 points per game and 12.7 rebounds, which is the fourth-best total in the NBA.
Norman Powell (back) and James Harden (groin) are doubtful, and Leonard and Zubac have already been declared out for the front end of another back-to-back against the Celtics. For the front end of their own back-to-back, the Celtics classified Al Horford (toe) and Jrue Holiday (shoulder) as questionable.
Despite Powell's 27 points and Harden's 17 on Monday, the Clippers managed only 16 points in the third quarter and lost by 20 points.
