Charlotte Hornets vs Los Angeles Lakers Preview, What to Watch

When the Los Angeles Lakers and visiting Charlotte Hornets play a make-up game on Wednesday, the teams will return from the All-Star break sooner than anticipated.

Due to the current wildfires in the Los Angeles area, the game that was originally planned for January 9 was postponed.

The Hornets were originally supposed to play the Lakers with Anthony Davis, but the game has been rescheduled to feature Luka Doncic, who was acquired by Los Angeles on February 2.

Doncic has faced the Utah Jazz in both of his games with his new team. He scored 16 points in a road defeat last Wednesday and 14 points in a home win over the Jazz on February 10.

He missed a month and a half due to a calf ailment before both games.

Despite the defeat last week, Los Angeles has won ten of their last twelve games. LeBron James, the team's star, chose to skip Sunday's All-Star celebrations due to discomfort in his left foot and ankle because he is so focused on the two months left in the season.

James, who is still developing a rapport with Doncic on the court, is listed as doubtful for the game on Wednesday.

LaMelo Ball of Charlotte abandoned the game after nine minutes due to a left ankle injury sustained during that previous meeting versus Los Angeles.

Since then, Ball has only participated in two games, including one against the Brooklyn Nets on February 10 that he departed early due to a right ankle ailment. On Wednesday, he is categorized as probable.

Despite averaging 27.3 points, 7.2 assists, and 5.1 rebounds in 33 games this season, Ball was not chosen for the All-Star team; instead, he has been receiving much-needed rest time.

Ball, a native of the Los Angeles region, is essential to the Hornets' hopes because they have lost 17 of their last 18 games without him.

The Hornets and Lakers had reached an agreement prior to the trade deadline, but the transaction that would have sent rookie Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish to Charlotte was canceled when Charlotte big man Mark Williams failed his physical in Los Angeles.

Williams is expected to play against the Lakers. It would be his first game action since the agreement was canceled if he did play.

Williams struggled to stop Davis, who finished with 42 points and 23 rebounds in last month's loss to the Lakers, scoring 11 points and pulling down eight rebounds. In the Doncic trade, Davis was sent to the Dallas Mavericks.
