The Eastern Conference Finals finally arrive as the New York Knicks travel to Cleveland to face the Cavaliers in Game 1 of a highly anticipated series. Many expected these two teams to emerge as the East’s top contenders before the season even began, and now they are four wins away from reaching the NBA Finals.

The Knicks have looked dominant throughout the postseason. New York eliminated both Atlanta and Philadelphia in convincing fashion, winning seven of eight playoff games by double digits while consistently overwhelming opponents with physical defense, offensive rebounding, and late-game execution.

Cleveland’s path has been far more turbulent. Opponents have repeatedly targeted both players in pick-and-roll actions throughout the playoffs, and the Cavaliers are expected to aggressively test those matchups with Mitchell and Harden initiating offense.

For New York, Mikal Bridges’ recent surge has transformed the team offensively. After a slow start to the postseason, Bridges has become a reliable secondary scorer while also taking on major defensive assignments. His ability to slow Donovan Mitchell without forcing Brunson into difficult defensive situations could prove pivotal throughout the series.

Another key factor is New York’s offensive rebounding. Mitchell Robinson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Josh Hart have consistently created second-chance opportunities, allowing the Knicks to extend possessions and wear opponents down physically. Cleveland must improve its defensive rebounding discipline if it hopes to control tempo at home.

The Cavaliers, meanwhile, will look to continue the offensive rhythm they rediscovered late in the Detroit series. Harden’s playmaking and Mitchell’s scoring explosiveness remain Cleveland’s biggest strengths, particularly when the Cavaliers can generate transition opportunities before New York’s defense gets set.

OG Anunoby’s expected return after extra rest also gives New York another important perimeter defender and additional spacing offensively. His health could become a major swing factor as the series progresses.
