San Antonio completely controlled Game 5, delivering a dominant 126-97 performance behind another spectacular outing from Victor Wembanyama. After being ejected in Game 4, Wembanyama responded with 27 points and 17 rebounds, overwhelming Minnesota on both ends of the floor and re-establishing himself as the defining player of the series.
The Spurs also received major contributions from their supporting cast. Keldon Johnson provided a huge spark off the bench with 21 points, while De’Aaron Fox added scoring pressure and transition playmaking. San Antonio dominated the rebounding battle throughout Game 5, limiting Minnesota’s second-chance opportunities and controlling the pace from start to finish.
Minnesota now enters an elimination scenario after one of its weakest performances of the postseason. Anthony Edwards once again carried much of the offensive burden, but the Timberwolves struggled badly from three-point range and failed to generate enough consistent scoring around him.
Rudy Gobert’s matchup with Wembanyama has also become a major storyline. The Spurs’ superstar has consistently stretched Minnesota’s defense and neutralized Gobert’s interior impact, forcing the Timberwolves into difficult defensive adjustments throughout the series.
Despite the pressure, Minnesota remains dangerous at home. The Timberwolves have shown resilience throughout the playoffs, and Chris Finch will likely make major tactical changes to create more spacing and reduce San Antonio’s defensive control in transition.

The Cleveland Cavaliers return home with momentum and an opportunity to eliminate the Detroit Pistons after storming back from a 2-0 series deficit. Cleveland’s late comeback victory in Game 5 shifted complete control of the series toward the Cavaliers heading into Friday night.
Donovan Mitchell continues to lead Cleveland offensively and has historically played his best basketball at Rocket Arena during the postseason. Alongside him, Evan Mobley’s defensive versatility and James Harden’s veteran playmaking have become increasingly important as the Cavaliers have adjusted throughout the series.
Detroit now faces enormous pressure after allowing Game 5 to slip away late. Cade Cunningham and Tobias Harris must steady the Pistons offensively, while Detroit’s physical defense has to return to the intensity level shown earlier in the series.
The Cavaliers remain unbeaten at home during the 2026 playoffs and enter Game 6 with confidence after winning three straight games in the series.
Prediction: Detroit competes aggressively early, but Cleveland’s offensive firepower and home-court momentum should be enough to close out the series and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
